Poland - Kraków, Krakow, Cracow

Hi, I hope you have enjoyed my blog so far. While creating the list of cities to visit in Europe, I was wondering about which city or country I can make another post. I decided to write about Krakow because it is not surprising that Krakow is in the top five. In this post, I want to show you what this amazing city has to offer and why it is worth visiting.

Little Bit About Krakow

Set on the banks of the River Wisła, Krakow is a city located in the south of Poland. Krakow is Poland’s centre for art and culture and is packed with impressive architecture and fascinating history to discover which dates back to the 13th century.

Things To Do/See In Krakow

- Old Town, Main Market Square - 

The Main Market Square is located in the very heart of Krakow's Old Town. It is the largest market in Europe, and on summer days it is filled with flower stalls or even bagel sellers, who are very popular, of course, there are people on the market who offer carriage rides. The square is surrounded by many open-air cafes and restaurants where you can enjoy a selection of Polish beers, dishes, but also watch the busy square.
Note ❗, if you want to enjoy your meal and enjoy the beautiful scenery, go ahead, but be aware that you will come across prices much higher here than in other restaurants away from the Main Square.

- Wawel Royal Castle - 

Wawel is a limestone hill located in the centre of Kraków upon the Wisla River. The Wawel Castle is one of Europe’s largest royal castles. The castle was once home to the kings of Poland and it is formed of religious buildings that date from various periods of constructions.

There are five different museum sections you can visit, as well as gardens and the cathedral where Pope John Paul II was archbishop before he became Pope. There is also a lot of legends about a Wawel dragon, that is believed to have prowled the underground of the castle many years ago. If you ever get the chance to visit the castle, to find more out more about if from any of the tour guides that will be happy to tell you the fascinating legends, and history about Wawel.  

- Auschiwtz - Birkenau -

This recommendation will come as no surprise as many people think of Auschwitz when they hear about Krakow. Auschwitz, which is located in Oświęcim, about 66 kilometers west of Krakow, is the largest of the Nazi concentration camps, serving as a concentration camp and site of extermination for the European Jewish community during World War II. You must visit this place while in Krakow, it touches the heart.

Croatia - Split,Trogir,Malačka

My name is Damian, I had the opportunity to visit Croatia several times. For this reason, I decided that my first blog post would be about Split and what to see in and around Split.

 Little Bit About Split

Split is the second-largest city in Croatia, after the capital city Zagreb, however, it is the largest city in the Dalmatia region. From ruins dating back to the roman empire to a stunning seaside promenade lined with palms, packed with bars and restaurants. It is a perfect destination for anyone who would like to relax in the Croatia sunshine and history of this beautiful city. 

Things To Do/See In Split

- The Riva - Promenade -

This promenade runs along the southern part of Split, along its harbor. The long, lively promenade is lined with palm trees that can be admired against the backdrop of the harbor while sitting and drinking coffee or tea on one of the nearby benches. Filled with great restaurants and nice cafes that let you enjoy a cup of popular Croatian coffee or a glass of cold local beer, wine with an amazing view of the Adriatic Sea. It is a popular meeting place during the day, but also at night when the promenade is amazingly illuminated. 

- Diocletian's Palace - 

It is probably one of the most popular attractions in Split and well worth seeing. Considered one of the most impressive Roman ruins, this ancient palace built in the 4th century for the Roman emperor Diocletian contains a military camp, the Golden Gate, and the villa where the Roman emperor Diocletian retired. The palace is located in the Old Town, which is very popular for its well-preserved Renaissance architecture that allows visitors to have centuries of history intersecting before their eyes. Game of Thrones fans knows this place very well, as the Game of Thrones scenes were filmed in this stunning location.

Explore Croatia Outside of Slpit
- Kozjak / Malačka - 

To the north, the Kaštela Bay is surrounded by the mountains Kozjak, Opor and Trečanica, which gently descend towards the sea. About 27 km from Split is Kozjak, which has one of the tourist spots worth visiting and from which you can see all of Croatia along the Adriatic Sea.

 In the past, caravan routes led through Mount Kozjak. Currently, in Kozjak and the surrounding mountains of Kaštelanska Zagora, there is about 80 km of marked mountain routes, which are very pleasant for recreational mountain trips. The rock cliffs of Kozjak are known for their mountaineering climbing directions (near the "Malačka" mountain shelter), which are not very heavy and you can also climb here for recreational purposes.
